SO, I decided I wanted to try something new a few days ago...
Instead of lots of small acts of kindness, this week I wanted to do one big massive project, and it's what I've been working on over the past three days.
Basically, here's how its going to go down:
The city that I'm living in has, like most big urban centers, a lot of issues (no, duh!) and a recent study was done of a certain public high school near me, showing that an incredibly large number of students had some type of eating disorder or expressed low levels of satisfaction with their body image. So, an idea started growing in my mind... Apparently guidance counselors at schools are supposed to advise kids who have these issues to seek professional help, and often times they offer titles of self-help books to buy. While I don't know how effective these books are, I know that, were I (G-d forbid) in that situation, the LAST thing I would want to hear is "go out and read a book to 'fix' yourself" - So I decided that I wanted to do something small to help better teens' self-image.
I've printed out tons and tons of little pieces of paper that each say something uplifting along the lines of "You're special" or "You're worth it" or "You're stronger than you think", etc.
I've been leaving these little slips of paper in random places everywhere I go, and I'm considering printing out new ones that say "pass it on"
My plan for this weekend is to go out to bookstores in my area, and leave a few of these slips in and around self-help books. I don't know how well it will work, but I'm still interested in trying.
If anyone has any idea of how I can better this project or tweak it, please let me know!
Keep it Kind
& Keep it Lifted!
